Just 10 minute walk is the Margaret Mahy Family Playground a new central city park, named after New Zealand’s most acclaimed children’s writer. It is framed by Manchester, Armagh, and Madras streets, and will form part of the Avon River precinct.
It features a four-metre wide slide, double flying fox, spider climbing net water features and interactive equipment. The playground is believed to be one of the largest in the Southern Hemisphere. It has been designed with input from the city’s school children, and to reflect Canterbury’s four main habitat types with a forest zone, a peninsula zone, a plains zone and a wetlands area.
